Security starts with an inventory.
Knowing your connected devices helps build protection that fits the organisation’s work.
Look beyond the individual computer
In a healthcare organisation, applications and devices contribute to the same operational processes. An initial survey helps identify which systems are present, who manages them and which activities depend on them.
Three questions to start with
- Which devices and applications are connected to the network?
- Who is responsible for managing and maintaining them?
- Which services would be affected by an outage?
These answers provide a basis for discussing priorities, access, segmentation and monitoring with the people who understand the processes.
From an inventory to priorities
The inventory is a working resource that needs to stay current. It connects technical information with the operational context and guides subsequent assessments.
